“The Parish Council is deeply concerned about the recent pollution incident at Trevaunance Cove. Along with the local authority we are pressing South West Water for an immediate explanation, and will do everything we can to help prevent further such instances. Our coastline is profoundly important to the health and wellbeing of local people, to wildlife, and to the wider Cornish economy. This type of incident is completely unacceptable. The Parish Council is requesting that a representative of South West Water attends a forthcoming Parish Council meeting.”
Cllr Mark Nason – Chair of St Agnes Parish Council’s Environment & Property Committee.
This is, as every resudent of St Agnes is probably aware very much an ongoing issue as it has occurred several times before without a remedy or, remedial action being taken. Platitudes are not enough.
Whilst SWW have admitted a small spill there seems to be no action from DEFRA or the Environment Agency to nail down the large farming companies for soil run off into the sea and rivers. This brown water not only looks terrible it is full of phosphates and chemical pesticides far worse than the natural biological effluent that spilled from SWW works. Perhaps we should put pressure on DEFRA, the Environment agency and large farming companies to minimise this soil run off in the village.
