Where can I find manifestos for these nominees please?
Hi Harriet,
The Parish Council does not retain any candidate information but if you email Sharon Richards (Principal Electoral Officer at Cornwall Council) she should be able to help you:
Sharon.richards@cornwall.gov.uk
Kind regards.
Hi, I tried that and got this reply (below). Please advise
‘There are no manifestos for any candidates that Cornwall Council would hold. We only administer the election on behalf of the parish council.
You need to contact the candidates direct and ask what they are standing for, alternatively contact the parish council to see if they can assist you’
Thanks for the information and sorry you have been given the run around. I have replied to you via your Facebook Messenger message just explaining that I have contacted Cornwall Council directly now and am awaiting a reply…
How can we be asked to vote for one of two candidates when there is no information available as to what the candidates stand for? There are no contact details, no website, no email, no nothing that I can find regarding these two individuals!
Hi, we completely agree with you! Following this string of comments, the Parish Council Office has got in touch with Electoral Services at Cornwall Council directly. I will share the reply when I receive it…
Best wishes and thank you for your patience.
I understand that manifestos are not really applicable to parish council elections but there must be somewhere that tells about the 2 candidates otherwise how can I choose? I clicked on your link statement as to persons nominated and it just gives their names. This all seems very odd to me – has the Brexit issue scared candidates into oblivion? (I understand those parish councillors are nothing to do with Brexit but the electorate are out for ‘revenge’ may be affecting all this I think). Are we seriously saying we have to contact these people? That is ridiculous and makes the election pure pot luck of whether anyone votes and those that do pot luck on who they choose. This cant be the way things should work surely?
Thank you for your comment John, this is very frustrating. The Parish Council Office has now contacted Cornwall Council’s Electoral Office directly and is waiting for a reply…
The response posted recently from the council suggests they cannot add further information about the candidates. I am very reluctant to put a cross next to either name without knowing a little more about the individuals and what they stand for. Could someone please contact Simon Cohen and Tom Hougham to ask them to put up something to give a sense of their philosophy/vision/ opinions about why they want to be elected and what they think they can bring to the role? Apologies if this info is up but I can’t find it.
Thanks for your help.
Jamie Copsey
Hi Jamie,
Thank you for getting in touch.
This week, following lots of enquiries, the candidates have been encouraged to promote themselves in the community. Unfortunately, we don’t hold any contact details for them but we have put urgent messages out via existing Councillors and Community Groups.
Kind regards.
Hello
For those asking for a bit more info about me regarding the parish council candidacy, a bit more info is below, or you can see my story at mrsimoncohen.com
I live in the village with my wife Kate and three little girls. While I would be very happy to be a parish councillor, from the look of Tom he seems like a fine man, so I hope in any case this will be good news for the parish.
Areas of interest
• Climate change – helping to ensure that our infrastructure, housing, businesses are sustainable and that St Agnes can be an example for the rest of the county
• Equality – helping to ensure that disabled, lonely and disadvantaged individuals have support to help them thrive
• Enterprise – helping to ensure local businesses and entrepreneurs have the support they need to contribute to the local economy
About me
• Worked with and represented HH Prince of Wales, HH Dalai Lama, charities and NGOs across the world
• Built a social business called Global Tolerance for ten years and gave it away to focus on being a stay-at-home dad
• Train social entrepreneurs in Cornwall and around the world in leadership and marketing
Local activities
• Volunteer with a local disabled elderly person through Age UK
• Captain St Agnes reserves football team and am an FA qualified football coach
• Volunteer with a group seeking to save a space in the village from development and preserve it for the arts
Hope this helps!
You may have noticed my name on the recent election slips for Parish Councillor for St Agnes Ward, I like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. Firstly I can understand your frustration that you are asked to tick a box without knowing anything about either candidates and hopefully in the future a short statement could be sent out with the poll cards.
I live in the village with my wife Natasha and our three children who attend the school/pre-school and I am a helicopter pilot flying out of Newquay Airport. I am already invested in the village community, I coach one of the junior rugby teams and am a school Governor.
I feel so lucky to live here, a great community with a village feel and I would like the opportunity to help add to its future success, making improvements when possible and help to protect this amazing village.
I’d appreciate your vote.
Thank you Tom for taking the time to write this note. One question- I appreciate that this position has its particular focus, but I would be interested to hear your stand on environmental issues in and around the village. For example, if there was a move to instal a wind turbine or some other form of sustainable energy source within our area, would you be supportive of it in principle, or would you put aesthetics over environment? Cheers jamie
Hi Jamie, thanks for your question. In short, I would be supportive of a sustainable energy source for the benefit of the environment and future generations but as with everything there is a balance. I wouldn’t want it to take away from what makes our village great, aesthetics included.
